OceanWings is looking for a skilled Composite Design Engineer to join our Paris office team. This role involves designing and developing composite structures, working closely with OceanWings’ engineering team and production teams to create innovative and high-performance solutions for our projects. You will be responsible for the design, analysis, and drafting of technical drawings for composite materials and structures, ensuring that they meet both client specifications and industry standards.
With an engineering school background, you are passionate about technological challenges and possess strong knowledge of composite structures.
Key Responsibilities
Composite Design:
Develop and justify the composite structure design for the OceanWings® composite components, working closely with our FEA (Finite Element Analysis) structural team to ensure safety, durability, and performance. You will be using standards governing design, manufacturing processes, and tests of composite parts.
Generate 3D models and produce 2D technical drawings and lamination plans for composite components, using CAD software (e.g., Autodesk Inventor, Creo Parametric, AutoCAD) for the OceanWings® composite components.
Ensure the feasibility of manufacturing and assembling of the OceanWings® composite components.
Oversee the selection of appropriate composite materials based on performance requirements, cost, and availability.
Follow the prototyping of composite parts (full-scale and sub-structures) and the testing process to validate design concepts.
Documentation: Create and maintain thorough documentation, including design and test reports, technical specifications, and technical drawings, to ensure compliance with industry standards and client requirements.
Optimization:
Participate in building OceanWings®’ feedback database, optimizing the existing composite component design to improve manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
Develop and maintain composite analytical tools and a best practice database.
Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality control, project management and communicate with OceanWings® composite suppliers, to ensure that designs are manufacturable and meet required specifications.
Profile & Required Skills
Educational Background: Bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical engineering, Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, or Naval architecture Engineering.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in composite design, preferably where you have designed large structural composite parts in the composite, shipbuilding or renewable industry.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in 3D CAD and 2D drawing tools (Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Creo Parametric). Composite specific drawings is a plus.
Good knowledge of composite manufacturing processes especially with resin infusion of high thickness structural component, and testing methods.
Experience working with classification societies in the maritime, offshore, renewables industry will be valued.
Problem-Solving Ability: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to solve complex design challenges.
Attention to Detail: Ability to deliver high-quality designs while adhering to tight deadlines and project requirements.
You are curious and have a good team player.
Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively present technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Languages: Good level of English, allowing you to work in an international environment.

Position: Composite Design Engineer
Contract Type: Full-time contract
Location: Paris, with the possibility of up to 2 days of remote work per week
Start date: as soon as possible
Travel: Frequent travel in France and abroad (Europe and Asia).
